Civic Precinct redevelopment
Built in the 1960s, the previous Council Chambers and Administration Building at 241 Rokeby Road has reached end of its useful life and is no longer fit for purpose.
In December 2022, following a thorough consideration of all options, Council endorsed an
investigation into the demolition and rebuild of the building to better equip the City to continue delivering high quality services to its community.
In 2024, a
two-stage tender process commenced to appoint an architecture firm to design the new building and revitalise the Civic Precinct – incorporating the Evelyn H Parker Library, Subiaco Museum, Rankin Gardens and the Subiaco Fallen Soldiers Memorial.
On 27 May 2025, Council resolved to appoint architecture firm, Lyons as the lead architect for the historic project. Lyons will work in collaboration with Officer Woods Architects, GLAS and Super Natural.
Lyons will now work with Council to map out a design journey for the project and create a design suitable for community consultation.
The City will continue to keep the community updated as the project progresses.
Project Objectives
- Deliver a revitalised Civic Precinct that enables the City of Subiaco to continue servicing and supporting its community long into the future.
- Pay homage to the rich history of Subiaco through the design of the new Civic Building, and its incorporation within the wider Civic Precinct.
- Ensure long-term value for money with a building that will stand the test of time.
