Ada Street Greening

The City of Subiaco will soon be commencing street 'greening' construction works on Ada Street.

As a result, Ada Street will be closed from 29/10/2025 to 16/12/2025.

Work times will be 7:00am – 5:00pm

Project overview

Works will include replacement of asphalt with a brick paved street surface, tree planting, addition of street furniture and additional landscaping to verges.

The project vision is to create a shared street environment based on self-explaining roads principles that slow traffic and create an informal public open space that elicits safe driver behaviour.

Benefits include:

  • Safer traffic environment

  • New garden beds in verges

  • New seating

  • Increased tree canopy and shade

  • Reduction of temperatures to reduce the urban heat island effect

  • Australian native plantings

  • Stormwater capture in garden beds, minimising stormwater runoff following Water Sensitive Urban Design Principles

  • Protection of existing trees

  • Bird nesting box

Consultation

The City and its consultant team worked collaboratively in consultation with surrounding residents to develop the project.

The consultation included engagement activities, the MARKYT Community Scorecard, the Urban Forest Strategy, and the City's Strategic Community Plan consultation sessions.

The project will deliver on the following aspirations such as:

  • Delivering spaces that prioritise people, safety, access and connectivity

  • Strengthen climate resilience response through water-sensitive landscaping and infrastructure

  • Protect and grow the City’s green network through tree canopy, smart plantings and green links

  • Enhance streets and laneways as safe, walkable places for people

Project timeline

  • Community consultation was undertaken from 8 May to 27 May 2024

  • The tender for the work was called in April 2025

  • The construction contract was awarded in June 2025

  • Procurement of materials is occurring (June through December 2025)

  • Street closure will be active from 29/10/2025 to 16/12/2025

  • Demolition of the road surface will be completed in early November 2025

  • Construction of all civil works for the project is anticipated to be complete by the end of December 2025
