Antisocial behaviour, crime and safety

The City is always looking for ways to make Subiaco even more livable, safe and accessible.

If you require assistance in keeping our community safe, please note the below channels to ensure the right organisations are contacted. Where criminal activity occurs, the City advises the public, as well as our own staff members, to contact WA Police on 131 444 for non-emergencies, or 000 in an emergency.

More information on the City’s approach to antisocial behaviour, crime and safety can be found in our Community Safety Framework.

Frequently asked questions about community safety

Antisocial behaviour refers to behaviour by a member of the public which causes or may cause harassment, alarm or distress to another member of the public. Examples of antisocial behaviour include trespassing, noise nuisance, uncontrolled animals, littering, and drug use.

The City is undertaking a number of proactive measures to discourage antisocial behaviour, including upgrades to public open spaces with increased night-time lighting, maintaining good working relationships with WA Police and referral agencies, and stationing responsive staff members out in in the field. The City also works closely with a volunteer outreach team, and provides support to rough sleeping community members at the City-supported Salvation Army Homelessness Services Team walk-in centre every Wednesday from 10am to 2pm at The Third Place on Barker Road, Subiaco.

Please refer to the 'Keeping our community safe' infographic above, for a detailed breakdown of contact information dependent on types of behaviour or incident. If criminal activity has occurred, contact Police on 131 444 for non-emergencies or 000 in an emergency.

Vehicle Crime Prevention

Thefts from motor vehicles often occur quickly and are frequently opportunistic, with offenders targeting vehicles where valuables are visible or doors have been left unlocked. You can reduce the risk by following these simple steps.

Protect your vehicle

  • Lock all doors and close all windows, even if leaving your vehicle for only a short time.

  • Remove valuables from sight, including handbags, wallets, laptops, sunglasses, shopping bags, loose change and charging cables.

  • Never leave house keys, garage remotes or identity documents inside your vehicle.

  • Park in well-lit, busy locations where possible. If parking at home, use a garage where available.

  • Consider installing anti-theft number plate screws, a steering wheel lock or a dashcam.

  • If you have a keyless vehicle, check that it has locked before walking away.

Home and community security

Vehicle crime prevention is part of keeping our community safe. You can also:

  • Ensure your home, garage and vehicle are always secured, even when occupied.

  • Consider installing or maintaining quality security measures such as external lighting, CCTV systems and security screens.

  • Register your residential CCTV system with CAM-MAP WA to assist police investigations where appropriate.

  • Mark and record valuable property and register bicycles or e-rideables through Bikelinc.
