Volunteering

Volunteering is an excellent way to care for and contribute to your community, and to connect with new people.

Volunteering WA, WA's peak body for volunteering outlines many benefits gained from volunteering. The impact has a ripple effect starting with the volunteer, extending to benefit the organisation, people using the organisation’s service, and the wider community.

Other benefits to volunteering include:

  • Making a difference to the lives of others

  • Supporting a cause that you are passionate about

  • Giving something back

  • Helping others less fortunate

  • Helping the environment

  • Feeling valued and part of a team

  • Spending quality time away from work or a busy lifestyle

  • Gaining confidence and self-esteem

  • Building or developing new skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Improving employment prospects

  • Meeting new people and making new friends.

Volunteers are an important link with the community and are valued highly by the City.

City of Subiaco residents are a compassionate and caring lot; in 2016, 27 per cent of Subiaco residents reported doing some form of voluntary work, compared to Greater Perth's average of 17 per cent.

The City has eight volunteer programs, with volunteers making regular and valued contributions. Volunteers help provide services across the City, including seniors activities, library, museum, environment, and recreation.

The City’s volunteer programs include:

  • Museum Program

  • Subi Voice of Youth

  • Positive Ageing Ambassador Program

  • Lords Community Exercise Classes

  • Books on Wheels

  • English Conversation Club

  • Justice of the Peace

  • Environmental Program.
