Plans for a new civic building progressed this week with Council approving a two-step tender process to recommend an architect for the design of the building and its surrounds.
This means tenderers will be shortlisted based on qualitative criteria, followed by a further assessment based on concept designs produced in response to a tender design brief.
Built in the 1960s, the previous Council Chambers and Administration Building at 241 Rokeby Road has reached end of life. A redevelopment of this precinct is a key priority in the City’s Corporate Business Plan 2021-2025 with Council resolving to investigate a rebuild back in December 2022.
Community consultation will play a key part in the new building and precinct with opportunities for engagement built into the process.
More information will be provided in the coming months via the City’s website and other channels.
