CPRA Golden Target Awards - Government Team of the Year
This award recognises the City’s high-performing Communications and Engagement team, whose innovative and strategic approach has strengthened community connection, driven digital engagement, and enhanced the City’s reputation as a vibrant and creative local government.
Over the past year, the team delivered major initiatives including the More than rates, roads and rubbish campaign, the Born in Subi storytelling project, and record-breaking growth across digital channels, achieving engagement rates triple the industry average.
Economic Development Australia Awards - Economic Development Recovery and Resilience
This award recognises successful economic development programs, initiatives or activities which are focused on building economic resilience, and the City was recognised for its commitment to reinvigorating its legacy and history of markets, and profiling Subiaco as a vibrant destination.
The City’s nomination included the Pre Loved Clothing Market, and the summer Subi Night Market, which is currently in its third season. It also detailed the City’s innovative approach to both markets, including flexible programming which saw Fringe World Perth and the Christmas Cocktail Trail seamlessly integrated into the Subi Night Market’s 2024/25 season.
Mainstreet Australia Awards - Best Main Street Streetscape and Design
The City of Subiaco was nationally recognised at the 2025 Mainstreet Australia Awards, taking home the award for Best Main Street Streetscape and Design for its SubiPoP Public Realm Upgrade project.
The biennial awards celebrate excellence in placemaking, urban vibrancy and main street marketing projects across the country. The City was also named a finalist in two other categories – Best Main Street Place Activation – Council Led (over $100K) for SubiPoP, and Best Main Street Place Activation – Consultant or Supplier for SPACEMRKT Subiaco.
Delivered by the City’s Economic Development and Place team, SubiPoP saw upgrades to Seddon Street, Postal Walk and the Subi Greenwalks laneways. Once underused, these areas have been transformed into lively, accessible and people-focused spaces that have boosted community use and supported a more vibrant town centre.
Property Council of WA - Special commendation for Community Activation or Engagement
The Subi Night Market was recognised at the Property Council of WA’s annual awards night on Friday, receiving a Special Commendation in the Best Community Activation or Engagement category.
The commendation recognises an outstanding community activation (including an event, program, service or initiative) that demonstrates a beneficial relationship between the organiser and the community.
The Subi Night Market 2024-25 season was held over 31 weeks on Saturday evenings in Market Square Park, and welcomed 114,000 people to Subiaco – a 58 per cent increase on the original 2023-24 season.
Australian Institute of Marketing Excellence Awards - finalist in Public Sector category
The City of Subiaco’s popular ‘For a day’ video series was recognised at a national level as a finalist in the Australian Marketing Institute’s 2025 Awards Excellence Program in the Public Sector Marketing category.
The video series, which was produced by the City’s Communications and Engagement team, gives a behind-the-scenes look at the diverse roles that keep the City of Subiaco running.
Australian Event Awards - Best small event state winner
The City of Subiaco was recognised at the 2025 Australian Event Awards, receiving a State Winner title for Best Small Event with Subi Blooms x Gather 2025.
Held over Mother’s Day weekend, Subi Blooms x Gather transformed Subiaco into a walkable trail of large-scale floral installations, immersive art, live music, and local activations. Delivered by See Subiaco, the event showcased the creativity of more than 30 florists and artists, attracting thousands of visitors and supporting local businesses.
In addition, the City’s Harmony Under the Stars 2025 event received State Nominee status for Best Community Event. Hosted during Harmony Week at Subi Night Market, the evening celebrated cultural diversity through music, film, and interactive activities, welcoming families and community members from all backgrounds.
Western Australian Local Government Association
The program recognises and celebrates outstanding achievements and lasting contributions made by Elected Members to their local government, WALGA, and the wider community.
Mayor David McMullen was recognised with a merit award for notable contributions to WALGA and the City of Subiaco.
Minister for Local Government's Place Innovation Awards
The Minister for Local Government’s Place Innovation Awards recognise innovative projects that enhance public spaces and community connection across WA.
The City of Subiaco was awarded the top spot for the Perth and Peel region for our transformation of Walmsley Lane into a vibrant, welcoming space that has boosted foot traffic and revitalised the town centre.
Planning Institute of Australia State Awards for Planning Excellence
These awards recognise outstanding achievements in urban planning across WA.
The City of Subiaco took home five awards, including the PIA WA President’s Award and Minister’s Award Commendation, celebrating our innovation in sustainability, development and First Nations engagement.
WA Tourism Awards
The Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards celebrate excellence in destination marketing and visitor experiences across the State.
The City of Subiaco was awarded bronze in the Tourism Marketing & Campaigns category for our standout summer campaign, ‘Summer in Subi’, delivered through See Subiaco.
Local Government Professionals WA Honour Awards
The LG Professionals WA Honour Awards celebrate initiatives that strengthen local communities across Western Australia.
The City of Subiaco took home the Connecting Communities award for our IDAHOBIT Rainbow Procession project, which brought together young LGBTQIA+ people to create a joyful, inclusive event in the heart of Subiaco.
AILA WA Landscape Architecture Awards
The AILA WA Landscape Architecture Awards celebrate excellence in landscape design that shapes vibrant, liveable places across the state.
The City of Subiaco’s Postal Walk project received the 2024 Urban Design Award for transforming an underused thoroughfare into a thriving, accessible meeting place in the heart of the town centre.
Most Accessible Communities WA Awards 2024 - Services and Events Category
The Most Accessible Communities WA Awards are a celebration of recognition of local governments that demonstrate they have creatively exceeded minimum legislative access and inclusion requirements, showcasing their commitment to their communities.
Highly Commended Award in the Services and Events Category for delivering accessible programs such as Sensory Rhyme Time, Dementia-Friendly Library Services, and the sunset@subi concert series, which features an Auslan interpreter at every performance.
Waterwise Gold Council
The City of Subiaco was re-endorsed as a Gold Waterwise Council in 2024, as part of the Water Corporation’s Waterwise Council Program.
This is the 13th year that the City of Subiaco has been a Waterwise Council, and the 7th year it has achieved Gold status.
One of the most prominent initiatives that has contributed to this Waterwise status is the City’s Waterwise Verge Rebate Program, which offers residents rebates of up to $500, plus free workshops with gardening experts, to help residents replace their verge with native, waterwise plants.
Planning Institute of Australia - Improving Planning Processes
The awards recognise organisations that showcase leading practices across a range of planning disciplines. The City was recognised with the Improving Processes Award for its Local Planning Policy 7.2 - Refunding, Reducing and Waiving Planning Fees.
National Economic Development Award
The City took out top spot in the ‘Economic Marketing and Promotion’ category for campaigns and events delivered through its destination marketing brand, See Subiaco, during the COVID-19 pandemic. These include Subi Blooms, Sustainable Style Series and Subiaco Eat, Drink, Live magazine.
