City wins national award for markets
The City of Subiaco took out the Economic Development Recovery and Resilience award at the 2025 Economic Development Australia Awards, held in Newcastle last night.
The award recognises successful economic development programs, initiatives or activities which are focused on building economic resilience, and the City was recognised for its commitment to reinvigorating its legacy and history of markets, and profiling Subiaco as a vibrant destination.
The City’s nomination included the Pre Loved Clothing Market, and the summer Subi Night Market, which is currently in its third season. It also detailed the City’s innovative approach to both markets, including flexible programming which saw Fringe World Perth and the Christmas Cocktail Trail seamlessly integrated into the Subi Night Market’s 2024/25 season.
Mayor David McMullen said the award is well-deserved recognition for the City.
“Subiaco’s long-standing history with markets was reinvigorated when the Subi Night Market debuted in 2023. We are now complementing this with other market offerings like the Pre Loved Market; and adding special events and pop-ups at the Subi Night Market every week this summer.
“These two markets are now flagship events on our annual calendar, and they help cement Subiaco as a destination for vibrant, regular events that our community and visitors love. It’s fantastic to see the Subiaco’s market resurgence recognised on a national stage.”
