2025 in review
2025 has been a busy and productive time for residents, visitors, businesses and staff within the City of Subiaco.
The City’s Council and staff have worked towards and celebrated a number of fantastic achievements, consistently delivered community services, and set plans in motion for the future of our City for the next 10 years.
As we look back on the year that was, here are just some of the City's highlights from 2025:
- Welcomed tens of thousands of visitors to the sunset@subi concert series, the Subi Night Market, Supercar Sunday, Subi Blooms, and more vibrant events and festivals
- Welcomed a long-awaited SAT decision to refuse a demolition permit for the buildings at 424-428 Hay Street
- Appointed an architect for the new civic building and gardens, and released a concept design for community feedback
- Commenced community engagement on the 40km per hour speed limit reduction, the Shenton Park Community Centre refurbishment, and the Subi Streets initiative
- Launched our partnership with SPACEMRKT to transform vacant shopfronts into hubs for local artists
- Opened two new playgrounds at Park Street and Mueller Park
- Hosted the 2025 Craig Silvey Award for Young Writers, Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists, and the Photographic Awards (which included two new categories)
- Celebrated the 50th anniversary of Subiaco Museum, and unveiled a brand-new refurbishment of the museum’s permanent exhibition space
- Won a series of national and state awards for streetscape design, economic development, tourism events, and planning
- Welcomed two new Councillors following the 2025 local government election
- Launched a new 8-week Teen Fitness Program at Lords Recreation Centre
- Expanded services at our weekly walk-in homelessness support centre in partnership with The Salvation Army, including free haircuts and grooming from Short Back and Sidewalks, and free laundry services from Orange Sky
- Launched the City’s first Safe Active Street from Evans Street to Keightley Road in Shenton Park
- Installed new solar powered paddle aerators to improve water quality at Lake Jualbup and Mabel Talbot lake
- Welcomed the first Indigenous artist in residence, Dana Garlett, to Subiaco Museum for her exhibition ‘Becoming Djida’
- Launched the City’s new and improved online services for the community via TechnologyOne’s OneCouncil software
- Awarded community grants to a range of worthy recipients, including an LGBTQIA-friendly choir, the Subiaco Women’s Shed and local sporting clubs
- Welcomed a series of new businesses to Subiaco, including Kivari, Pinos Empanadas, Casa del Dolce, Opulence Serenity, Quello Bar and Bishop Street Cafe.
