First Indigenous artist in residence for Subi

Subiaco Museum welcomed its first Indigenous community artist in residence – Dana Garlett – with an exhibition opening event on Friday night (21 February).

Dana is a Whadjuk, Nyikina, Minang, Ballardong woman who founded ‘Paperbark Prints’ and created the City’s Reconciliation Action Plan artwork which is now proudly displayed on the mezzanine in Subiaco Library.

The exhibition, Becoming Djida, shares Dana’s personal story of her connection to family and country through her artwork.

The exhibition was opened with a special evening of art, music and recognition of Aboriginal culture at the Subiaco Museum.

Dana’s residence will run until May and will include a number of community activities such as Night at the Museum with the Artist, school holiday artist workshops, and a special Subi Blooms light and floral installation 

Subiaco Museum is free to visit and is open:
  • Wednesday to Friday 12pm to 4pm
  • Saturday 10am to 2pm
