City pops with Mainstreet Australia Awards win
The City of Subiaco has been nationally recognised for excellence in urban design and placemaking, taking home the 2025 Mainstreet Australia Award for Best Main Street Streetscape and Design for its SubiPoP Public Realm Upgrade project.
The City was also a finalist in the Best Main Street Place Activation – Council Led (over $100K) category for SubiPoP and the Best Main Street Place Activation – Consultant or Supplier category for SPACEMRKT Subiaco.
The biennial Mainstreet Australia Awards celebrate the very best in placemaking, urban vibrancy, and main street marketing projects across the country. City of Subiaco Mayor David McMullen accepted the Best Main Street Streetscape and Design Award at a gala ceremony held on 18 September 2025.
SubiPoP, delivered by the City’s Economic Development and Place team, included significant upgrades to Seddon Street, Postal Walk, and the Subi Greenwalks laneways.
Once underused, these public spaces have been reimagined as lively, accessible, and people-focused areas that have sparked a major increase in community use and activity.
The revitalised spaces are now not only more attractive and engaging for residents and visitors, but also provide greater support for local businesses by creating a more vibrant and walkable town centre.
Mayor David McMullen said the awards highlight the City’s commitment to innovative and community-focused urban renewal.
“These awards are fantastic recognition of the City’s demonstrated commitment to creating vibrant, welcoming spaces that bring people together.
“Thoughtful design projects like SubiPoP are creating community hubs that are safe, welcoming and contribute to Subiaco’s unique character and charm. This all fits into the bigger picture of the City's support for community connection, the activation of public spaces and a vibrant local economy.”
