Three local sports clubs have received funding for a variety of initiatives, including new tennis nets and volunteer workshops, as part of the City of Subiaco’s Sport Development Grants program.
The program provides financial assistance for local not-for-profit sporting clubs, projects, and programs that promote wellbeing and a sense of belonging to Subiaco’s community. The grants assist with either service provision, or the purchase of equipment for clubs that play in the City of Subiaco.
The clubs successful in this year’s funding round are the Daglish Tennis Club, Western Suburbs Cricket Club, and Rosalie Touch Association.
Daglish Tennis Club Secretary and Treasurer Jude Rowohlt said the club was very excited to be a recipient of this year’s grant funding.
“Three new nets and matching poles have been purchased with the generous grant from the City – this could not come at a more fortuitous time, as the Club is steadily increasing its membership, especially juniors.
“The current tennis nets and poles have been in use for over 60 years, so we are hopeful that new members will be attracted to the Club when we have better equipment.”
Bard Forbes, President of the Western Suburbs Cricket Club, said the funding has greatly empowered the club’s committee and assisted with operations planning.
“We engaged a consultancy firm with the grant funds to review and restructure our club’s committee and operations. As the largest senior cricket club in Perth, we rely heavily on the efforts of our volunteers. The firm conducted a health check and workshops to help us better understand our governance, operations, and financial challenges, so we could work together for the best possible outcome for our club.
“Now, thanks to this grant, we have a refreshed structure, as well as tools and ideas to reduce our volunteers’ workloads.”
Mayor David McMullen said, “Our sport development grants, and wider community grants program in general, are all about strengthening community connection and belonging.
“By supporting local clubs like these, we help them to keep providing opportunities for people of all ages to get involved and get active in our local community.”
