Have your say on the Shenton Park Community Centre refurbishment
Through its capital works program, the City is reconfiguring and reimagining the Shenton Park Community Centre (SPCC) to create a multi-purpose, accessible space suitable for our evolving community.
Located at the corner of Herbert and Onslow roads in Shenton Park, the SPCC is the City’s most widely used community centre.
Over the years, it has been home to many community groups, including the Subiaco-Shenton Park RSL Sub-Branch, Meals on Wheels, Shenton Park Playground, Shenton Park Senior Citizen’s Association, and more.
The proposed reimagining of the centre includes a number of key upgrades, including;
- Upgraded kitchen facilities to cater to food preparation requirements.
- New hard and soft landscaping, including preservation and enhancement of existing tree canopy to create relaxing sitting areas.
- Improved accessibility, including toilet facilities, a multi-use internal courtyard, and enhanced indoor and outdoor connections.
- Reduced carbon footprint, including replacement of all gas appliances with 100 per cent renewable energy.
- Creation of bookable storage areas for regular community groups and hirers.
Mayor David McMullen said the refurbishment will shape the future centre for the future.
“We know how valued the Shenton Park Community Centre is by our community and by groups that use it frequently. It is currently the City’s most widely used community centre.
"We want to deliver a reimagined centre that will be used and enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, well into the future. A big part of this refresh is therefore to capture as much community feedback as possible during the engagement period.”
During the refurbishment period, the City will work closely with existing hirers of the centre to assist with accommodation and other enquiries.
The City welcomes feedback from the community about how they currently use the centre, and how they will use it into the future.
