Subiaco artist to exhibit at museum

A new community artist series is launching this month at Subiaco Museum – Life’s Objects by Myra Staffa.

The exhibition presents a collection of still life's depicting the objects we collect in our lives and how they can resonate with each other, telling stories of our lives.

“The objects that we use in our everyday lives have a connection to us,” Myra said. “We often take them for granted unless it is a favourite mug or a travel souvenir or something that has been gifted or bequeathed to you. Some of our ‘things’ are functional and ordinary while others are examples of decorative design and have historic or cultural significance.

“Exploring the genre of Still Life painting is something I have been working on for a long time. I like the way a group of objects can resonate with each other. The stories and nuances that curated tableaus bring together in little pools of morning light and shadow, interest me.”

Myra Staffa is a Subiaco local with a long career in art education. She uses several mediums of expression and her studio practice includes painting, and working with fused glass and ceramics. She has exhibited around Australia, and has work in both public and private collections all around the world.

Come along to the exhibition opening night on Friday 22 September from 5pm to hear from Myra about how she uses objects from her own life to create paintings that become objects in their own right.

She will also be running a series of special events including a monthly coffee with the artist, and children’s art workshops for kids aged 8 to 15.

The exhibition is open from Friday 22 September to Friday 22 December 2023.

Subiaco Museum is at 239 Rokeby Road and admission is free. Opening hours are Wednesday to Friday 12pm to 4pm, and Saturday 10am to 2pm.
