Art in April school holiday activities

These April school holidays, encourage your kids to unleash their inner artist with Subiaco Library's 'Art in April' school holiday program!

There's something for every age and ability level within the program, including painting, collages, character drawing, Lego art, and watercolours. 

Art in April aims to develop and foster young artists before the opening of the 2023 Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists

All events are free, located at Subiaco Library, and bookings are highly recommended. Bookings open Monday 27 March 9.30am. Check out some of the program's offerings below:

Artist Sean E Avery

Join award-winning author-illustrator Sean E Avery as he demonstrates the painting and collage techniques he uses to create the illustrations for his best-selling picture books. He will guide young artists through the process of creating a snowy landscape filled with natural textures in this exciting, hands-on workshop. This is a messy activity, so wear paint-appropriate clothes.

Artist Tyrown Waigana

Join Tyrown Waigana, incredible Indigenous artist of sculpture, fine art, graphic design, and illustration, for a workshop around character work and drawing a character into different angles and poses. Perfect for any artistic project, like graphic novels, multimedia art, and your very own sculptures.

DIY Negative Space Art

Using paint, stencils, layering and your own imagination, learn how to create art using the blank spaces.

Lego Art

Come along and get artistic with Lego! Can you use Lego to make your own portrait? Or would you prefer to build a Lego of your pet? Bring a friend and build something amazing.

Artist Kelly Canby

Award-winning author and illustrator Kelly Canby will teach all her tricks and techniques to make beautiful illustrations using watercolour blobs, spots, and swirls. This workshop will use Kelly's book "Timeless" as inspiration to make some whimsical watercolour art.
