Integrated Artwork
The upgrade included integrated artwork by VOXLAB, reflecting the history of the site.
The original homestead on the site of One Subiaco was built by John Rowland Jones in 1886 and was the second house within the municipal district. The population of Subiaco at the time was still small and only a handful of trains ran each day between Perth and Fremantle. At night the train stopped at the platform when a match was struck. To stop Mr Jones from becoming lost in the bush, Mrs Jones would often leave a candle burning in the window to help guide him home at night from the station.
Seddon Street's feature artwork The Rail, by VOXLAB 2023, is made from railway line sourced from Dwellingup with direct links to the original railway line through Subiaco. Integrated lighting through these forms assist the sculpture in becoming a welcoming beacon for the new precinct.
The Zimpels Catalogue, by VOXLAB 2023 is a steel artwork that serves functionally as bike racks throughout the site. It is inspired by chairs developed by the Zimpels factory, which once ran on the site of ONE Subiaco. The artwork is positioned at a 45 degree angle, as if being viewed in a catalogue.

Project Status
The Seddon Street public realm upgrade was completed in October 2023, with the space formally opened to the public on Saturday 7 October 2023. The new space was celebrated with a ONE Subiaco Market event, presented by Blackburne in partnership with the City. The market celebrated the opening of Seddon Street, while honouring the history of the One Subiaco site, previously host to the old Pavilion Markets.
