For 30 years, the City of Subiaco has nurtured, celebrated and encouraged the creativity and imagination of young people across the state.
This inspiring prose writing award for children and youth reaches students across the state, providing an opportunity for young writers to showcase their imaginative and creative stories. This year, the City received over 1300 entries, with regional entries from as far as Karratha, Broome, Geraldton and Albany.
On Monday night, at a ceremony in Subiaco, award-winning author, Tim Winton awarded prizes to WA’s young authors and praised them for their creativity.
Three winners were announced for each school-aged category, with the overall winner being announced as Abigail Porter from Churchlands Senior High School for her piece titled, A Succession of Faces. For the full list of winners, visit the City’s website.
The winners for each category are:
Lower Primary Category – Cara Sutherland from Wesley College
Middle Primary Category – Ela Karaman from East Fremantle Primary School
Upper Primary Category – Desandu Premarathna from Caledenia Primary School
Lower Secondary Category – Emmey Levar- Uppill from Applecross Senior High School
Upper Secondary Category – Abigail Porter from Churchlands Senior High School.

The Tim Winton Award offers the opportunity for budding writers to develop their voice and have their stories heard. The three winners announced from each category have their work on display at Subiaco Library until Sunday 23 October and are also published on the City’s website.
