New lighting that is designed to minimise disruption to wildlife has been installed at Lake Jualbup, in efforts to support local birdlife, turtles and other animals that nest in the area.
The lights feature amber-coloured LEDs, which produce light with a narrow spectral distribution, and that produce fewer lumens than white-light LEDs.
This softer light reduces disruption to all types of wildlife, but particularly protects turtles, who can become easily disorientated by artificial white light while nesting.
The lights work on a censor and turn on at nightfall each day. Along with the fantastic environmental protection they provide, the lights also meet the City’s standards for safe pathway lighting.
