The City will dedicate two laneways as public road, enabling legal right of way access for abutting properties after two Council decisions at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Council resolved to dedicate three lots on Ellen Street and purchase and dedicate three lots on Austin Street as public road which will give a number of properties legal right of way access where there was none previously.
The decision also ensures the City can legally maintain the laneways into the future.
The owners of two lots on Ellen Street are long deceased with no probate and one lot is owned by an estate which is now deregistered; the owner of the Austin Street laneway recently offered to sell the lots to the City to allow them to become a public road.
Nearby residents and owners of surrounding properties of both laneways were consulted on the proposals; the City received no objections.
The City will now make a formal submission to the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage to dedicate the laneways as road.
