Mayor and City executives to pedal for a purpose

Lords Recreation Centre, Mayor David McMullen, and senior City executives are pedalling for a purpose this month to raise money for kids and families in need through the Telethon HBF Fitness Challenge.

The team will be riding a stationary bike for six hours straight for the challenge with Mayor McMullen, Director Corporate Services Emma Woolaston and Director Development Services Alex Petrovski joining the ranks this year alongside Lords staff.

Mayor McMullen said he was excited to be part of the challenge after the Lords team raised more than $10,000 last year.

"I've made occasional trips to the Children's Hospital; fortunately, only for relatively low-key mishaps, but these experiences have certainly given me a great respect for Telethon's beneficiaries," he said.

"This high intensity fitness challenge may be tough, but childhood sicknesses are tougher."

Anyone who donates to the Lords team will go in the draw to win prizes, including Ember Bath House vouchers, dining ware from Subiaco retailer Table Culture, and an artwork specifically created for the challenge by emerging artist, Kayley Emery.

When you donate, you can pledge the team to carry out certain activities (think push-ups or squats) based on your donation amount.

The six-hour ride will be taking place over the Telethon Weekend on Sunday 22 October.

Lords also holds a number of cycle classes each week with this weekend’s classes (14 and 15 October) spotlighted with the theme ‘Ride the Rainbow’ to tie in with the Children’s Hospital colourful bridge. Participants will be encouraged to wear their brightest colours and make a donation if they wish to.

Good luck team!
