Greta Hayes and Aleisha Power, longstanding staff members at Lords Recreation Centre and professional hockey players, are preparing for selection for the Australian women’s team ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Greta, a Customer Service Officer, and Aleisha, Duty Manager, have worked together at Lords for the past two years, and train at the centre before or after their shifts.
Of the rigorous training required, Aleisha said, “Olympic year is always a busy time which takes a lot of commitment physically and mentally, but it’s a highly rewarding process to be a part of.
“It’s nice to have support through friends, family, as well as our work colleagues at Lords who provide us opportunities to support ourselves financially as well as good laughs and an outlet away from sport.”
Greta said, “Lords is an awesome workplace, accommodating our training and meeting schedules as we prepare for Olympic selection. While we work towards our goals in the upcoming year, being a part of Lords not only keeps us focussed and driven but also instils a sense of humility.
“It’s a community that passionately embraces health and wellness, and being a part of it is both inspiring and fulfilling.”
Mayor David McMullen said, “We wish Greta and Aleisha all the very best this Olympic year. Their team here at City of Subiaco will be cheering them on as they hit the field with their hockey teammates.”
Both Greta and Aleisha manage work and study alongside their hockey commitments. Greta has recently graduated with her nursing degree, and Aleisha is studying a Post Grad in counselling.
They will be hitting the pitch in Perth this April, when Australia will host other international nations in the lead-up to Paris.
