The Smith family is making the gym a family affair after Lords Recreation Centre launched a new teen membership.
The new membership means those aged 14 and 15 can come along with their parents and siblings to build confidence in the gym in a safe, comfortable and supported environment as part of the City’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community.
It focusses on keeping young gym goers safe and making sure the start of their fitness journey is a positive experience enabling them to build good habits for life.
Twins Lucy (15) and Jensen (15), along with their parents, have taken advantage of the new membership and agree it’s been fun to work out together as a family. Ethan (17) has also been part of Lords gym for the past year.
“Lords is a great community and safe space, and the provided program gave me a good guide of where to start so I don’t hurt myself or anything,” Jensen said.
Lucy agreed that the introductory sessions were useful and made her feel comfortable at the Lords gym.
The siblings said they now looked forward to the gym after a long day at school.
“The sense of community here is really nice and it’s good to work out with my family,” Ethan said.
While the three siblings may not remember, it turns out that they’ve been coming to Lords for some time now with their dad, Iain, putting them in the creche while he worked out. Iain is a long-term member and has been coming to Lords for 23 years now!
