The squawk of walkie talkies replaced the magpies’ warbling in Rankin Gardens last week, as the Subi Kids Crew (SKC) were treated to a first-hand account of what it’s like to be a City of Subiaco Ranger.
Discovering everything from parking machines to community safety, the honorary rangers were all smiles when it came to learning animal safety, responsible pet ownership, and microchipping with Bob the ex-search and rescue dog who was arguably the star of the show.
The grins got even greater once each participant was presented with their Junior Rangers medal.
Mayor Penny Taylor said sessions like this play a pivotal role in nurturing the younger generation.
“These young people are our future leaders and innovators, which is why the City of Subiaco is investing in them, through the Subi Kids Crew, to develop their civic responsibility, teamwork and leadership skills,” she said.
“The Junior Rangers session familiarises the group with the important job that rangers do, and teaches them how they can be responsible community members in their day-to-day life.”
There are currently vacancies in the SKC. If your child is interested in joining, apply online or call 9237 9216 for more information.
