As part of the Public Libraries Evaluation Network, Subiaco Library conducts a library usage survey to gauge how and how often people are making use of local library services.
Here's an overview of some of the survey results:
- 95 per cent of respondents were Subiaco Library members, with more than 70 per cent from the Subiaco area, and another 20 per cent from surrounding western suburbs.
- Most respondents were over the age of 50.
- 85 per cent of respondents had accessed the library or library services within the last month.
- 36 per cent of respondents feel as though they have learnt something new about reading or literacy thanks to the library.
- 21 per cent have learnt something new about education.
- 20 per cent feel they have added to their digital skillset thanks to library services.
According to respondents, the library has helped them feel more confident about reading, becoming more involved in their community, and helping children learn.
One respondent noted, "The library has been an enjoyable part of my life since I was a young child in Subiaco. Subsequently, my daughters and now grandchildren have a love of our library and are all avid readers!"
Another said, "The library is local and easily accessible, has a wealth of material available, great staff, good facilities for involvement with my grandchildren - it's an invaluable part of my community."
Fantastic feedback was also received about the library space itself, including the layout of the collection and seating and study spaces, as well as promotional preferences and suggestions of new books.
Data from the survey is being taken onboard by the library team while planning for the reopening of the Subiaco (E H Parker) Library within the next few months, and for programming of future events and workshops.
