This morning the Subiaco Museum hosted a special school holiday edition of Museum Morning, welcoming grandparents and grandchildren for a day of archaeological adventures.
The all-ages event offered participants a hands-on exploration of the archaeological collections, providing insights into identifying items unearthed from digs and discovering treasures from Subiaco’s rich history, including artifacts found in resident’s backyards.
Mayor David McMullen said the intergenerational learning experience was a great success, having had a positive impact on both older and younger attendees.
“Our Museum Morning event showcased the power of intergenerational programs to foster meaningful connections and learning opportunities,” he said.
“Participants of all ages enjoyed their morning together, learning from each other and gaining a deeper appreciation of Subiaco’s cultural heritage.”
Studies show there are many benefits to intergenerational learning, including improved physical and mental wellbeing, increased social participation and decreased feelings of loneliness.
“The overwhelming success of the Museum Morning Intergenerational Archaeology Workshop underscores the importance of intergenerational connection within our community,” Mayor McMullen said.
For those who missed out, stay tuned for future Morning Museum
events and other intergenerational opportunities at Subiaco Museum.
