Following a review of the Rokeby Road and Hay Street Heritage Area, Council proceeded with amendments to Local Planning Policy 3.6 – Rokeby Road and Hay Street Heritage (LPP 3.6) at its Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday night.
The Heritage Area hadn’t been reviewed since it was originally designated in October 2013.
The review enabled more information to come to light about the history of various properties in the area and has resulted in changes to the level of contribution of eight properties.
Contributory buildings are places that make a positive contribution to the cultural heritage significance and traditional streetscape character of a heritage area.
In response to public feedback, amendments have also been made to recognise the laneways that intersect with Rokeby Road and Hay Street as elements that make an important contribution to the heritage values of the area.
Guidance on development within and adjacent to these laneways has also been included in LPP 3.6 to ensure that the heritage values of the laneways are conserved and enhanced.
Mayor David McMullen said, “Council has made a decision consistent with the City’s Local Planning Strategy which aims to protect and enhance the unique character and built heritage of Subiaco.
“The City will now inform the Heritage Council of Western Australia, and each owner of land affected, of the outcomes of the heritage area review.”
