Former Mayor to be recognised
To recognise over 25 years of service to the City of Subiaco community by Heather Henderson, a picturesque and popular part of Subiaco Common will become known as ‘Heather’s Walk’.
The new name comes after an Elected Members Motion was unanimously carried at this week’s Ordinary Council Meeting to recognise the former Councillor, long-serving Mayor, Freeman of the City, and recipient of a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).
Ms Henderson worked as a teacher and principal before serving as a City Councillor from 1990 to 2003 and then as Mayor from 2005.
She served as Subiaco Mayor for three terms, totalling 12 years, before retiring from the role to continue serving the community in other ways.
‘Heather’s Walk’ is not only a popular photo destination in autumn and jacaranda season, but is also the same path that Ms Henderson regularly walks with her dog, Tilly.
The Subiaco Common walk comprises the London Plane tree lined pathway and adjoining grassed area, running between Mere Lake and the watershed (at the junction of Mere View Way and Upham Street).
If Ms Henderson accepts, signage and a plaque recognising her important contribution will be erected.
