Floral takeover to transform Subi

Subiaco will become a vibrant floral fantasyland for a weekend in May when the state’s leading florists and botanic artists take over the streets.

Perth’s biggest and best-loved celebration of flowers, Subi Blooms is back for the Mother’s Day weekend from Friday 10 May – Sunday 12 May.

This year, installations from more than 18 of Perth’s most renowned florists will activate Subi with a floral trail through the town centre, alongside a unique interactive lighting installation coming to Perth for the first time.

Established in 2018, Subi Blooms is the perfect opportunity to explore the precinct – from hidden bars or specialist retailers to classic pubs and much-loved boutiques.

Drawing inspiration from events such as London’s Chelsea in Bloom, this year’s festival boasts an immersive floral trail that leads from Subiaco Train Station to Theatre Gardens, with a special installation in Shenton Park.

Activations to look out for include a floral Hot Air Balloon by State of Art, located near the Vibe Hotel, and a pop-up floral-bombed “Write to your Mum” station at Postal Walk by The Flower Girl.

With the support of Lotterywest, Subi Blooms will also feature a community program, including a public-built, interactive floral installation and a series of flower card making workshops by florist, Flower Nation. Other contributing local florists include Sonny and Willow, FreakHaus, Signature Florals and Fox & Rabbit.

A major focal point of this year’s festival is Stem by Stem, a large-scale light installation fusing technology and floristry. Lighting up Seddon Street from 19 April – 19 May 2024, this creation of Melbourne design studio ENESS features large, illuminated inflatable characters holding an overflowing floral bouquet created by Sir Botanical.

A pivotal theme of Subi Blooms in 2024 is sustainability. Only fresh or preserved flowers and materials can be used – no synthetics – and at weekend’s end, the installations will be repurposed into free bouquets for new and expectant mothers at King Edward Memorial Hospital.

The Subi Blooms weekend celebration attracts residents and visitors alike to the suburb in a most beautiful manner. It’s a great way to experience the essence of Subiaco.
