In a heartfelt ceremony held this morning in the picturesque Subiaco Common, Mayor David McMullen officially announced the naming of a walkway in honour of former Mayor Heather Henderson.
The event marked a significant moment in the recognition of Henderson's enduring contributions to the City.
During the ceremony, Mayor McMullen praised Henderson's exceptional service to the City of Subiaco, highlighting her three-decade-long tenure. Henderson's legacy is deeply ingrained in the fabric of the community, characterised by her unwavering dedication and selfless commitment to public service.
Henderson's career in local government began in 1990 when she was elected as a Councillor, later assuming the role of Deputy Mayor. She was elected to Mayor in 2005, a position she held for three consecutive terms, steering the City through numerous transformative phases.
Reflecting on her contributions, Mayor McMullen recognised that beyond her roles in government, Henderson's impact extended into the educational realm, where she served as a special needs teacher and Deputy Principal, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.
In recognition of Henderson's enduring legacy, the City of Subiaco passed an Elected Members’ Motion to create ‘Heather's Walk,’ a serene pathway nestled amidst the vibrant surroundings of Subi Centro. The walkway, adorned with London Plane trees, would serve as a poignant tribute to Henderson's cherished presence within the community.
“This is a perfect spot to name Heather’s Walk, particularly as it is the same path that Heather regularly walks with her dog, Tilly,” Mayor McMullen said at the opening event.
"Heather remains a well-known and much-loved face in our community, and I’m delighted to be here today to celebrate with her."
The dedication of Heather's Walk stands as a testament to the City of Subiaco's enduring appreciation for Henderson's invaluable contributions, ensuring her legacy continues to inspire generations to come.
