The 2023 Photographic Award winners were announced on Monday 15 May, and this year, five Subiaco residents took out a number of categories with their creative photography.
Seven photographers picked up awards across four main categories – ‘Mobile’, ‘Open’, ‘Subiaco’ and a ‘Resident’ category – as well as children and youth award winners.
The overall winner was Shenton Park photographer Joseph Rae, with an exceptional observation of an otherwise unexceptional urban scene, Ramp and Building.
Kay Cypher took out the Subiaco category with her entry Flying. Allan Stevenson won the Subiaco Resident prize with his entry Big Date Ahead.
Shenton College student Oliver Tomkins won the youth category with an image that showed high technical skill, titled Catcher in the Rye.
Lucas Huang from Shenton Park took out the kids category with his entry Chicky Sister, which was commended by the judges for its Wes Anderson aesthetic and strong depth of field.
These images are amongst 89 finalists’ photographs on display at Subiaco Library until Sunday 4 June.
Exhibition visitors can put themselves in the judges’ shoes by voting for their favourite entry for the People’s Choice Award. Voting is via ballot at the library.
