2022 has been a busy, productive, and exciting time for residents, visitors, businesses and staff within the City of Subiaco.
The City’s Council and staff have worked towards and celebrated a number of fantastic achievements, delivered consistent, well-loved community services, and planned for the future vision of our City.
Mayor David McMullen said, “We have worked together as a Council, and with our staff, to build on the City of Subiaco’s strengths as a vibrant place to live, work and play.
“We look forward with a sense of optimism; and in the coming year Council and I will continue to deliver good governance, leadership with integrity, professionalism, and advocacy in the interests of our community.”
As we look back on the year that was, here are some of the City's 2022 highlights:
- The Subiaco (Evelyn H Parker) Library celebrated its 50th anniversary
- Won a National Economic Development Award for the campaigns and events delivered by See Subiaco during the COVID-19 pandemic
- Welcomed a number of brand-new businesses to Subiaco, including Lums Wine Bar, La Condesa, Rumble Boxing, Crimped Blo Bar and Shui
- Subiaco Museum received a State Heritage Award nomination for its increased visitation and expanded family and schools’ activity program
- Progressed representation by people with disability through the appointment of a new Disability Access and Inclusion Committee
- Welcomed the METRONET Airport Line, slashing travel times to and from Subiaco from a variety of metropolitan locations
- Hosted the City’s first event to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, featuring Perth Modern School’s sexuality and gender alliance,
- Opened two new projects at Rosalie Park: a new mixed-used sporting area, and new floodlighting
- Unveiled a detailed pictorial heritage map, which was created by local artist Mary Yates
- Welcomed an average of 10,000 visitors per day over three days of our floral Subi Blooms activation during Mother’s Day weekend
- Introduced Business Engagement Forums to better connect our business sector with the City’s Elected Members and staff
- Improved road safety through the Federal and State Government’s Black Spot Program
- Completed the Nicholson Road streetscape project to improve traffic safety, pedestrian amenities, and parking
- Welcomed Bille Bob, the Subiaco Giant as part of the Giants of Mandurah art exhibition
- Held a flag-raising ceremony to show our support for Ukrainian people affected by the war
- Endorsed the implementation of 240L Food Organics, Garden Organics (FOGO) waste service for 2023
