Museum activities
There is something for everyone at Subiaco Museum - schools and families, art and heritage lovers, house and family researchers or anyone with a passion for Subiaco!
Join in our events or visit our changing and permanent exhibitions. Outside of the regular opening hours, guided tours are available by appointment on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Subiaco Museum offers hands-on, interactive history programs for Year One and Year Two students. Each program is led by museum staff and meets the needs of the requirements of the HASS Curriculum. The 2026 program has concluded.

Year One Teacher Subiaco Primary School
In 2026, students dressed in costume and participated in hands-on, role-play activities to discover how life in the past compares to the present.
The students explore the galleries and discover stories from our past.
Year 1:
Experience the old post office - write postcards, stamp letters and send morse code telegrams. Learn about Bert the local boy who became a postman.
Take part in wash day. Scrub clothes on a washboard, then hang out to dry with dolly pegs
Pretend play making scones and butter for the tearoom, serve customers and enjoy a pot of tea
Year 2:
Experience a lesson in the old schoolroom following traditional class rules, rote-learning timestables and writing on a slate board.
Learn about local builders the Grundmann family. Work together to build a house using ‘timber’ or ‘bricks’.
Explore decorative elements of the past by designing a stained-glass window.
Compare communication methods past and present
Museum Mornings are a monthly lecture series which explore the museum’s collection and cover an interesting range of local history topics, followed by the chance to catch up over a cup of tea or coffee.
