Elder Abuse Awareness

The City of Subiaco is committed to strengthening the safety, confidence and wellbeing of older people by raising awareness of elder abuse, promoting respectful and healthy relationships, and connecting our community to trusted, local supports. Through education, collaboration and early intervention, we aim to prevent harm before it occurs and ensure older people, families and carers feel informed, empowered and supported to age with dignity, respect and security in Subiaco.

Planning for the Future and Protecting Your Rights

ERWA via Legal Aid

Elder Rights WA (ERWA) plays a vital role in protecting the rights of older adults in Western Australia. If you or someone you know is in need of legal assistance, advocacy and support services, please contact the WA Edler Abuse Helpline at 1300 650 579 (freecall). 

Advocare

Over 55's Housing

The WA State Government provides information on housing options for over 55’s. To find out more  call 1300 367 057.

My Aged Care

My Aged Care is the Australian Government system providing some extra help at home or an introduction to aged care homes. Contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or visit www.myagedcare.gov.au for further information or to arrange an eligibility assessment.

Council of the Ageing (COTA)

Community Food Services

My Aged Care provides information on meals and food preparation services on their website. There are companies that provide both food delivery services (Good Meal, Home Chef) and food preparation services (Amana Living, RISE, ECHO). These services may form part of a home care package or be eligible for government subsidy, check with each service for more information. 

The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS)

Providing friendship and companionship to older people. Regular visits from a community visitor can help  reduce social isolation. For further information call (08) 9319 0916.

Safe and Found

WA Police in partnership with Medic Alert Australia have launched the Safe & Found initiative to help people at risk of going missing. For further information visit www.safeandfound.org.au or call 1800 882 222.

National Dementia Helpline

Free, confidential information about dementia, memory loss and support services. Contact 1800 100 500 for further information.

Keep active, meet new people, learn something new or stay connected. A regular program of weekly activities and special events take place across Subiaco.

Over 55 Community Exercise Classes

Build strength, keep active or improve mobility. Lords run regular low intensity dance, Pilates, fitness and yoga classes at The Palms Community Centre, Shenton Park Community Centre and at Lords recreation centre. Coffee Club

Looking to connect with your community and meet new people? Or maybe you just moved to the area. Join us for a cuppa and a chat!

The Coffee Club meets weekly at 10am on Tuesdays at different cafes within the City of Subiaco. This Club is for older adults who would like to meet and socialise with like-minded people in their local area. Refreshments available to purchase.

Digital Education: Digication

Digication sessions are free public digital education sessions aimed at improving  digital literacy. Bring your IT problem or suggest a topic you would like information on 
and learn from tutors in a one-on-one setting. Sessions are available on Fridays 2pm-3pm. Contact the Subiaco Library to make a booking 9237 9300.

Craft Club

Knit and crochet the morning away with like-minded crafters. All ages and levels welcome! Bring along your half-knitted socks and crocheted scarves and enjoy a natter with knitters, no bookings are required just drop in anytime on Wednesdays from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Free tea and coffee provided.

Your Move Board Games Club

Join fellow board games lovers for a friendly game of chess, scrabble or backgammon. All ages and levels welcome, every Monday and Thursday from 9.30am. Free tea and coffee provided.

A free event for older adults from 10am to 11.30am to explore the Museum collection and discover new artefacts with a different theme each month. Meet new people, share memories or sit back, reminisce and listen to some interesting history over a free morning tea. Museum Mornings are held on the first Thursday of the month at the Subiaco Museum. Click here to view the flyer.

WA Seniors Week (happening in November) recognises the important role that seniors play in our community and celebrates the contributions of older Western Australians.

Housebound Delivery Services

The library offers a housebound delivery service for residents who are temporarily or permanently housebound and unable to visit the library. Contact the library on (08) 9237 9300 to find out more or determine your eligibility.
