Final week to share your thoughts on new civic building and gardens

Hub
There is one more week to have your say on the new civic building and gardens at 241 Rokeby Road.

Community engagement for the project opened on Friday 14 November 2025, and following two extensions, consultation will close on Friday 27 February 2026.

The City is inviting the community to have their say on a concept design for the new civic building and gardens, which includes a community hub, flexible exhibition space, a grass roots pavilion, and more.

At the February Agenda Briefing Forum on Tuesday 17 February, Mayor David McMullen provided an update to the community about the next steps of the project.

“Council will make meaningful use of what came out of the Annual Electors Meeting in December 2025 related to the Civic Precinct project. The agenda for next week’s Ordinary Council Meeting proposes that the three motions from the Annual Electors Meeting will be included as part of a report to Council at the conclusion of the consultation period to support decisions regarding any changes to the concept design.

“All feedback received during the consultation period will be analysed by an external agency before it is presented to Council.

“For the March Ordinary Council Meeting, the proposal at the moment is to ask the CEO complete a number of key actions related to the project. This includes:
  • preparing a detailed response to community feedback;
  • instructing Lyons to prepare different building options that respond to community feedback;
  • preparing an updated project timeline; and
  • sourcing further independent cost estimations and independent financial and economic appraisal.

“This is all about alignment of expectations and clarity of process. It is about transparency and it is about Council giving clear direction about what comes next.

“The February and March Ordinary Council Meetings are by no means the end of Council’s decision-making on this project. My hope is that Council will demonstrate a sensible, orderly, incremental way forward informed by all of the community feedback that has been collected over the past three months."
