Building permits

Building services assess and approve building works within the City. A building permit is required for any building works involving the construction of structures, alterations or extensions and changes to ground levels.

These include but are not limited to:

  • commercial buildings including fit-outs and refurbishments

  • residential dwellings including additions and alterations

  • sheds, garages and workshops

  • patios, verandahs, gazebos and pergolas

  • swimming pools and spas

  • retaining walls

If you own a property in the City of Subiaco you are able to view or and/or obtain a copy of the plans and approvals held by the City.

To receive these plans, please complete the Request for Copies of Building Plans Form and return it to the City via email (city@subiaco.wa.gov.au). 

This process may take up to 10 business days. 

If you are not the registered property owner, or where the property forms part of a strata, duplex, or similar arrangement - please obtain written consent from the strata corporate body or relevant owner(s) using the City's Landowner Written Legal Authorisation Form.

When lodging a building or demolition application in the City of Subiaco, you will be required to pay a standard bond and an inspection fee.

Prospective builders and developers should consider state and national regulations around disability access. 

The City provides a helpful guide for applicants. This is not a requirement for a planning application within the City of Subiaco. 

Mandatory requirements do apply to developments; the guide includes references to applicable legislation and Australian Standards.
