Subiaco's rich history and cultural heritage were celebrated through several initiatives and projects in 2024 – now highlighted in a new document available on the City’s website.

‘Heritage Achievements 2024’ looks at the year that was, recognising the importance of the area’s rich history and preserving it for future generations.

Subiaco Museum played a central role, engaging over 2800 visitors; hosting numerous educational events, including school visits; and digitalising over 5000 historical photographs.

Notable conservation efforts included the meticulous restoration of a 90-year-old wedding dress, originally worn by local resident Marion Sparkes in 1934, and a unique donation of a hand-built Hornby trainset, crafted during the Great Depression.

Built heritage highlights from 2024 included the successful review of the Daglish Local Heritage Survey – which saw 16 new heritage sites added – and the designation of the Park Street Heritage Area consisting of 109  properties, many of which date from the early 20th century.

The document also details highlights such as the 100th anniversary of the Daglish Railway Station (above picture) and celebrates the Old Corner Store on Hensman Road winning a prestigious heritage award.

‘Heritage Achievements 2024’ links through to the stories and videos that were told through the year on the City’s website and YouTube channel that put heritage front and centre, demonstrating and reinforcing the City’s commitment to heritage in all its forms.
