Grant brings a cappella to Shenton Park
A City grant is helping to bring all things a cappella to the community after it was recently awarded to a Shenton Park based group.
The grant has made it possible for diverse and dynamic group, The Baden Street Singers, to bring their LGBTIQA+ friendly open rehearsal series to the Shenton Park Community Centre for all.
The rehearsals – running from 20 February to 20 March – will include catering and break times to facilitate social engagement and support between members and participants.
The Baden Street Singers will also learn new arrangements over the rehearsals with participants invited to learn and sing the new repertoire in parallel before being invited to perform it at a final concert.
The Baden Street Singers Inc. President Matt Chung said, "The Baden Street Singers are opening their doors to the public for a limited time, and with the support of the City of Subiaco, we've not only been able to commission a new arrangement for our rehearsal guests, but to provide them with learning tracks, making singing with us more accessible than ever.
"We're grateful for the City's support in promoting Subiaco as a major hub for the Perth performing arts and look forward to seeing what we can achieve with this grant."
The open rehearsal series is for those who identify as LGBTIQA+ or allies but is open to all. It’s aimed at promoting mental health and social connection within the community as a whole.
