The recently upgraded Forrest Walk is now officially open after a buzzing launch event on Wednesday 9 October that also kicked off the City’s summer event season.

Community members, Elected Members, local business owners and contributing artists all attended the event that celebrated the new space and congratulated those involved.

Dr Len Collard gave a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony before speeches by Jahne Rees – the artist responsible for the new integrated artworks at Forrest Walk – and Blanks Walls’ Will Clark, ahead of the No More Blank Walls Subi festival this October.

Exciting activations gave attendees a glimpse of what’s the come this summer in the versatile new space, including a live mural painting and a creative vintage car display.

Mayor David McMullen spoke to the crowd about the Forrest Walk upgrade, and how it fits with Council's bigger picture. This includes strategic upgrades to other spaces in the public realm, the Subi Streets project, and renewed focus on the City's high streets through ongoing work such as a new Economic Development Strategy.

He thanked key people who made the upgrade possible, acknowledging the patience and support of adjoining businesses and landlords during the works.

“We have an exciting summer ahead and we look forward to sharing the City of Subiaco's summer events program, through our See Subiaco brand, with you,” Mayor McMullen said.
