Subiaco Library is helping those doing it tough this winter through the introduction of a new initiative – the Community Pantry.
The ‘pantry’ is stocked with everyday essentials – such as rice, long-life milk, baby nappies, and tinned goods – to help those who might be struggling to make ends meet to have access to items they may find useful.
The initiative encourages community members to ‘take what you need, give what you can’ to ensure the pantry is always stocked.
Mayor David McMullen said the Community Pantry was a small initiative that has the potential to make a big impact for some people.
“Winter can be a harsh time for many people and families and, if our ‘pantry’ makes a difference to one person in our community, then it’s well worth doing.
“This is a great example of community helping community and it’s heartening to see people donating items for those who really need them.”
The Community Pantry can be found in the Subiaco Library, 237 Rokeby Road. If you’d like to donate a non-perishable food or hygiene item, please drop it off at the library during
opening hours.
