City supports Homelessness Week this August

To recognise Homelessness Week 2025, which takes place from Monday 4 August to Sunday 10 August, the City is hosting a series of events and initiatives to raise awareness and start conversations.

The first event of the week is a panel called ‘Working Together to Create Change’, on Monday 4 August from 6pm to 8pm at Subiaco Library.

The event will bring together three key voices in the sector: Gayle Mitchell, Acting Executive Director in the Office of Homelessness at the Department of Communities, Chairmay and Brett from The Salvation Army, and Elizabeth Connolly, Manager Cultural Services at the City of Subiaco.

The panellists will discuss current challenges, innovative approaches, and local efforts to support people experiencing homelessness. The discussion will be followed by an interactive Q&A. Bookings are essential.

During the week, City staff also will take part in an educational event at Earthwise, and the City’s regular homelessness support walk-in centre at The Third Place, run in partnership with The Salvation Army, will take place from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday 6 August.

To support Homelessness Week, this edition of the drop-in centre will include a movie screening, all regular services (including laundry services from Orange Sky and free haircuts and grooming from Short Back and Sidewalks), morning tea and a free lunch provided by Nandos Subiaco.

Mayor David McMullen said, “Homelessness can take many forms.  Events and initiatives like these can help start conversations and play an important part in raising awareness of the issue.

“The City works collaboratively with service providers, WA Police, and other local governments to tackle the challenges associated with homelessness. We will continue to work with The Salvation Army and other service providers at our weekly walk-in service centre to provide immediate support and options for those in need.”
