City nominated for national economic development award
The City of Subiaco has been nominated for an upcoming Economic Development Australia Award, recognising the Subi Night Market and the Pre Loved Clothing Market.
The markets, which have been nominated in the Economic Development Recovery and Resilience category, represent the City’s commitment to reinvigorating its legacy and history of markets, and profiling Subiaco as a vibrant destination.
Both markets were trialled by the City in 2023 to gauge visitor interest, and following their success, the City partnered with KINN & Co to plan for both markets to become annual events.
This nomination recognises the business engagement, community engagement and City services coordination that went into the planning of both markets. It also celebrates the City’s innovative approach to the markets, including sustainable elements like the circular economy model of the Pre Loved Clothing Market, and flexible programming which saw Fringe World and the Subiaco Christmas Cocktail Trail integrated into the Subi Night Market in its 2024/25 season.
Mayor David McMullen said, “These two markets, which are now staples on the City’s annual events calendar, not only pay homage to our market legacy; they help cement Subiaco as a destination for vibrant events that our community and visitors love to attend.
“This nomination comes off the back of highly successful seasons of both the Subi Night Market and the Pre Loved Market. I look forward to seeing both events continue to evolve and bring more people into Subiaco to enjoy all we have to offer.”
