Special recognition for Subi Night Market

The Subi Night Market was recognised at the Property Council of WA’s annual awards night on Friday, receiving a Special Commendation in the Best Community Activation or Engagement category.

The commendation recognises an outstanding community activation (including an event, program, service or initiative) that demonstrates a beneficial relationship between the organiser and the community.

The Subi Night Market 2024-25 season was held over 31 weeks on Saturday evenings in Market Square Park, and welcomed 114,000 people to Subiaco – a 58 per cent increase on the original 2023-24 season.

99 per cent of attendees during this market season rated their overall experience as ‘Good’ to ‘Excellent’, with no visitors rating their experience as negative.

This season also saw the introduction of activations like “Meet Your Street”, which offered long-table gatherings hosted by local businesses to foster local pride and neighbourly connections.

Other events at the market this season included free dance classes by local studio Juan Rando Dance Academy, integrations with Subi Spritz, Subiaco’s Christmas Cocktail Trail and Fringe Festival, and a Harmony Week event which featured Aboriginal face painting, lion dancing and a free outdoor movie that had more than 6000 attendees.

Mayor David McMullen said this recognition reflects the positive impact that the market has had on the City Subiaco.

“We are now a couple of seasons in, from debut; and the Subi Night Market has firmly become a Saturday evening staple in the warmer months; offering the chance to come together over food, drinks, market stalls and entertainment for the perfect summer outing in Subiaco that begins right here at Market Square Park.

“The market brings people into our City and has shown no signs of slowing, with attendance more than doubling compared to its debut season in 2023-24. The introduction of new elements like “Meet Your Street”, have fostered even more ways for our community to socialise and connect.

“Congratulations to City staff for their efforts in ensuring the markets are a success, for this well-deserved recognition, and for the ongoing work to plan for and deliver future seasons of the Subi Night Market.”

Stay tuned for information about the market’s upcoming 2025-26 season.
