Celebrate Subi Farmers Market's 15th birthday
Subi Farmers Market is turning 15-years-old on Saturday 19 October and to celebrate there will be two very exciting happenings on this day – free cake and a new mural unveiling!
Cake will be cut and served at 10am for all and the new mural, painted by local artist Olive Cheng and supported by the City of Subiaco, will be ready the morning of markets to add more permanent fun and colour to Subiaco.
Olive has a stall at the farmers markets each weekend and had the help of local school students in designing the bright new mural which will appear on the Bagot Road footpath outside Subi Primary School.
In workshops with the local Year 2 students, Olive discussed ideas for the design that would celebrate their school, nature around the school and, of course, the Subi Farmers Market which is close to her heart.
Workshops with the students provided some key themes which will be incorporated into the mural, including:
- Rainbow fruits and vegetables to connect to the markets and the school’s ethos to promote healthy eating
- Promote walking, riding and scooting to school and the market
- Beautiful native flowers from around the school grounds.
The mural will be painted in a joyful and fun colour palette and blend market icons with native flora and local birds.
The City has been supporting the iconic Subi Farmers Market for a number of years now to ensure it continues to thrive, supporting local producers and artisans as well as the local community.
Olive Cheng recently completed
another colourful mural at Rosalie Park with the help of local students.
