The Rowland Street Precinct has been transformed into a greener, safer, and more inviting destination, with the completion of a series of upgrades designed to enhance public spaces, support local businesses, and improve connectivity between Rokeby Road and the Rowland Street carpark.
The Rowland Street carpark has been renewed with new pavement, improved drainage, upgraded footpaths and pram ramps, refreshed line marking and signage, and additional landscaping to improve safety and amenity.
Kannis Lane has also been revitalised, as part of the City's Subi Greenwalks program, with new paving, lighting, seating, and planting transforming the laneway into an attractive pedestrian connection between Rokeby Road and the Rowland Street carpark.
The precinct now features three new public artworks that celebrate its unique character; a large-scale mural by artist Leanne Bray, which draws inspiration from the iconic jacaranda and royal poinciana trees that define the area, a new large-scale mural by Jacob Butler (Shakey) inspired by Subiaco’s 1952 City declaration celebrations, and a series of miniature artworks by Graeme Miles Richards (still underway) that invite visitors to discover playful details throughout the laneway.
The project forms part of the City's ongoing investment in creating high-quality public spaces that support a vibrant town centre, improve accessibility, and enhance Subiaco's unique sense of place.
