Year One - Subiaco Museum - School Program

Visit the Subiaco Museum and learn about local history through a hands-on, interactive history program for Year One Students.

Term 2, Wed 7 May - Thu 29 May 2025

Subiaco Museum offers a hands-on interactive history program for Year One students. The program is led by museum staff and meets the requirements of the HAAS (History) Curriculum.

The Year One students can role play daily lives of Subiaco families from the early 1900s by handling collection items, participating in wash day activities, shopping at the old general store and dressing up in 1900s style costumes.

Students will explore historical photographs and objects that belonged to Subiaco families from the past. They can discover for themselves how families have changed or stayed the same.

Through the 'Then' and 'Now' game the students can consider the differences and similarities of past and present-day family life.

We are limited to 25 students (plus 1 teacher/adult per 6 students) in the museum at any one time. After the introduction, the class will be divided into two groups and complete two activities over the visit.

At the end of the visit, school groups are welcome to take the museum's basket of old-fashioned games to use in the historical Rankin Gardens adjacent to the Museum. It is a delightful area for children to play or picnic.
