How rates are calculated

Property rates fund a wide range of facilities, services, and operations in the City of Subiaco.

When adopting our budget each year, the City looks at the cost to run itself and minuses any non-rate revenue. The remaining figure outstanding shows what is needed to be generated by rates for the financial year. This figure is divided by the rateable properties that fall within our City to give us our rate in the dollar.

This rate is multiplied against the individual property’s gross rental value (GRV) to calculate each person’s rates; and combined with any additional yearly fees (e.g. waste service) to give your individual annual rates.

A separate charge is levied for waste collection and disposal, including recycling, and swimming pool inspections.

State Government legislation, Swimming pools - Reg 53, Building Regulations 2012, requires the City to physically inspect all private swimming pools at least once every four years to ensure compliance with safety standards. Swimming pool inspections are charged at $58.45.

The City of Subiaco inspects about 25 per cent of pools in the City each year. The cost of this program is charged as an annualised fee in your rates each year.
