Ward and representation recommendation approved by Minister

The City’s recommendation to reduce the number of councillors and adjust ward boundaries has now been approved by the Minister for Local Government.

After an extensive independent community consultation process, Councillors resolved at February’s meeting to make a submission to the Local Government Advisory Board proposing the community’s preferred option: retain four wards with adjusted boundaries, and reduce the number of councillors to eight.

The review was required to address an imbalance in representation ratios following the implementation of the City of Perth Act 2016.

The State Government will now seek the Governor’s approval before the change is officially gazetted.

It is anticipated that these changes will be implemented at the 2021 local government elections.
