Town Centre Parking Precinct Plan implementation update
Two more Town Centre Parking Precinct Plan updates will be coming into effect in September, creating more parking opportunities for drivers.
The plan – which was informed by community consultation and endorsed by Council in November 2023 – was updated to reflect current needs, providing a clear, consistent, sustainable and contemporary parking control model that is appropriate for the locality, and empathetic towards community needs.
Up to 23,920 additional parking opportunities per year will be generated for motorists in the high-demand area surrounding King Edward Memorial Hospital through the introduction of three-hour parking Monday to Friday, with the first hour free.
This will apply to parking on Barker Road and Churchill Avenue, between Rokeby Road and Axon Street, and allows motorists seeking to visit the area for a short period of time to continue to do so free of charge, while also catering for motorists seeking longer parking.
All-day parking on the north side of Hamersley Road between Hensman Road and the entrance to Theatre Gardens Car Station will also be introduced this month.
Other updates to the plan have already been implemented including increasing Subiaco Square Road from 30-minutes to one hour and introducing a loading zone on Alvan Street to assist deliveries to businesses situated near the corner of Railway Road, Rokeby Road and Roberts Road.
The town centre precinct is the area bound by Salvado Road to the north, Station Street, Railway and Roberts Roads to the west, Townshend Road to the east and Bagot Road to the south (see
map).
The Central Subiaco Precinct Parking Plan will soon be going to Council, which has a range of proposed amendments to parking controls in the Central Subi area.
