Perth is currently experiencing its driest six-month period in 150 years, placing increased pressure on the City’s limited bore water resources.
With no rain forecasted for the next month, the City of Subiaco has begun water rationing and prioritisation measures for the foreseeable future.
Priority will be given to preserving active reserves, then large reserves, ensuring essential public areas receive adequate irrigation.
The City is bound by legal obligations to adhere to the terms of its bore water usage license to avoid substantial fines. These adjustments in water usage have been made to comply with regulatory requirements, as well as uphold responsible environmental practices.
To optimise our water usage, the City employs strategies like 'eco-zoning' to reduce water needs in green spaces. We also use cloud technology to strategically schedule watering, adjusting flow rates as needed. Mulching and targeted watering further help us make the most of our water allocation.
Despite the challenges posed by this historic dry spell, the City of Subiaco remains committed to responsible water management practices, ensuring the sustainability of its water resources while preserving vital community spaces.
