Temporary footpath closure, Hay Street

HaySt Sanur 7794
From today, the City will temporarily close the section of footpath from 424-428 Hay Street and re-route pedestrians along the road, where there is currently on street parking.

This will avoid any impact to vehicles travelling along Hay Street and maintain walkability and pedestrian access to businesses along that strip of road.

The structure at the front of the historic building has been in place for some time and is due to be reviewed.

New information from structural engineering experts (presented at a recent SAT hearing) advised that the building at 424-428 Hay Street has not been in an active state since 1989, however safety will always be the City’s number one priority and the closure of the footpath mitigates any risk to pedestrians, no matter how small.

The City will be in a position to determine next steps following the conclusion of the SAT hearing which is due to finish on 2-3 December.

Eight parking bays at the front of 424-428 Hay Street will be impacted by the re-routing of pedestrians along the road, however there will still be plenty of parking options along that section of Hay Street and in the surrounding area.
