Sunset concert success
The 37th season of the City of Subiaco’s iconic sunset concert series was a resounding success with approximately 6500 people attending the six performances – an increase from last year.
The free program included a Christmas concert, a jazz orchestra, well-loved local cover bands, and the Royal Australian Navy Band Western Australia.
Dusty Springfield and the 60s Chics Tribute also played at Market Square Park, drawing in the biggest crowd of all the concerts.
Concert-goers braved the hot weather in January to attend many of the performances and, even a heatwave couldn’t stop people from dancing the night away.
Each concert included an ice-cream van, music quiz and prize giveaways including restaurant vouchers to support local businesses.
An Auslan interpreter (Dianne Prior) was on stage at all performances and was well received by people who attended from the deaf and hard of hearing community.
One attendee said, “My daughter is profoundly Deaf, there are not may community activities she can participate in. Diane Prior is a STELLAR person in the deaf community and wonderful interpreter – thank you City of Subiaco!”
Through City feedback forms, 98 per cent of concertgoers said that they would come to another concert in the season, 94 per cent of concertgoers said that attending sunset@subi made them feel more connected to the Subiaco community, and 98 per cent of people rated the quality of performers 8/10 or higher.
While the majority of attendees were residents from nearby suburbs, nearly a third of attendees travelled 20-30 minutes to attend a concert and 14 per cent travelled more than 30 minutes.
